Who says Bible study has to be boring? Or that it has to take place in a classroom? There's a great big beautiful world out there. Let's go out and enjoy it! Let's see what God has done and is doing right here in our own backyard.
Each week, we will meet at St. Mark's and travel together to a different site where we will reflect on scripture and learn about ministries that are taking place in our community. We may even get hands on and do a little mission work. Of course, we will ALWAYS enjoy good fellowship and good food... and maybe a little shopping!
Reelfoot Lake/Discovery Park Jan. 25-26
We'll kick things off with a real road trip! Our Methodists On the Move will meet at St. Mark's on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 a.m. and travel to Reelfoot Lake State Park to do a little eagle spotting. A guided ranger tour of the lake will begin at 10 a.m. Cost is $10. Afterward, we'll head on over to Boyette's Dining Room for lunch. Some may need to return to Memphis that afternoon, but those who are able will enjoy a girls' night sleepover at the Hardin Farm near Union city where we will prepare our own baked potato bar for dinner. Bring your favorite topping, drink, snack, breakfast item or dessert. The next morning, we can enjoy a Williams sausage breakfast before heading to Discovery Park of America. There we can learn more about the 1811-12 earthquakes that shaped the region, view the underwater life of Reelfoot Lake, and much, much more. The Discovery Center has 10 different exhibit galleries, and on the grounds you will find an 1800's gristmill, a 100-year old church, train station, locomotive, and a variety of log cabins, farm buildings and equipment that will take you back in time. Admission to the park is $12.95 for adults over the age of 65.
Bible Museum on the Square Thursday, Feb. 1, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Explore the history of the Bible from Abraham to Jesus at the Bible Museum on the Square in Collierville. The exhibit includes ancient pottery and crucifixion artifacts. Admission is $5. Then we can walk next door for lunch at The Silver Caboose Restaurant & Soda Fountain.
